HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! I encourage you all to eat a lot of pumpkin pie and not take it for granted. Because here in Qishan I can’t get any.
This week was pretty good. We have now been consistent for 3 weeks in teaching an average of 2 lessons per day which is great!! More and more of them are with members present so that’s an added bonus.
I would like to say I bought an ocarina, and that I’m very proud of that fact. To all of you Legend of Zelda fans out there, yes it does look like the one from Ocarina of Time. To those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, you should go play Ocarina of Time. Nah just kidding, there are better things you could be doing with your time. Like reading the scriptures!! Did you know missionaries spend an hour every morning for personal study where we read scriptures and study other missionary things? That’s pretty amazing. I have never before in my life spent that much time on a daily basis reading the scriptures. Maaaybe sometimes I would read for 15 minutes, but even that wasn’t a consistent everyday thing. I highly recommend setting time aside to read the word of God. It will bring a power into your life like none other. After all its the power of God, there is no other power quite like it! This week I’ve been able to follow up with a few investigators who have been consistently reading The Book of Mormon and some who haven’t. It is so incredibly obvious the difference between the two. Those who consistently read The Book of Mormon and pray progress in their relationship with God, their understanding of His plan for us, and their love for our Savior Jesus Christ. I urge you all to literally feast upon the words of Christ found within the scriptures!! Please do it!! It will bless your life far more than you can possibly imagine.
This week we were able to teach John Sullivan and his wife about the Word of Wisdom. I wish I had more time to describe how it went, but they both committed to live the Work of Wisdom! There was a funny exchange between the two of them after we asked them to live it. John’s wife turned to him and said, “do you think you can give up drinking?” and then he turned to her and said, “do you think you can stop smoking??” We all chuckled. Its amazing to see them progress as they make and keep commitments to live the way God has taught us to live.
This week we had a special experience with visiting a family. We were planning on biking a fair distance outside of the town to go trackting in a different area and as we left our apartment we both decided we should change our plans and go the long way so we could check on a potential investigator. Because we went that way it brought us by a house out in the middle of nowhere that we decided to stop at. They graciously let us in and said we could share our message. At first it was loud and not the best environment to be sharing the gospel in. There were several different conversations going on and only 2 or 3 of the people there were actively listening. But as we taught, as we testified, and as we shared from the Book of Mormon things began to grow quiet. Soon everyone in the room was actively listening and we were able to deliver a powerful lesson with the power of the Holy Ghost. This experience definitely helped me better appreciate the power of the Spirit and how much we as missionaries rely on it. I should be doing everything I can to bring the Spirit into every aspect of my work.
