Hello everyone! Glad you could all make it out here today. Beautiful weather don’t you think? (right now its overcast and not too hot here in Qishan)
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! I hope you all hugged your family to death! And of course you all better have eaten until full, preferably stuffed. That’s something we get asked pretty much every day here, “Have you eaten till full?” That’s a Taiwanese greeting! Kind of like “how ya doing?” But you actually respond whether or not you’ve eaten. So there’s your Taiwanese culture lesson for the day! You’re welcome!
For Thanksgiving, Elder Watson and I got steam buns and shaved ice for dinner. It was tasty. That’s pretty much all we did. Tonight we’re planning on going to a hot pot place with unlimited ice cream! Last Monday night we went there and I ended up eating 17 scoops of ice cream! Oh man it was good. One of these days I’ll shoot for 20 scoops, but maybe not tonight. We’ll see.
This last week was pretty good. We’re still teaching a good amount each week, which is good. We didn’t have a chance to meet with John Sullivan however, which was pretty disappointing. We did get to meet with Peng Shao Yu though! I don’t think I’ve talked about him before. He’s in high school and has been meeting with missionaries rather infrequently for almost a year now. He’s a good kid! Definitely has a desire to learn and become a better person, but he isn’t super committed to changing his life just yet. He has never come to church because he works on the weekends. We give him a hard time because he just spends his money on his moped, which he isn’t even old enough to legally drive yet. But eventually he’ll come to church! Anyways, he is pretty hard to meet with because he rarely answers the phone. So I was super grateful we got to meet with him. We talked about the Plan of Salvation and we gave him the assignment of Alma 34 to read. And we told him we were going to test him on it later. That hopefully motivated him to read it lol.
We also met with another high school student this week, his name is Li! We had met him the week before walking with a friend home from school and said hi. He said we could walk back with him to his house so we did and taught him about pray and the Book of Mormon. He was pretty willing to meet with us and he’s an awesome kid! Super kind. After our lesson this week he was telling us how he was going to pick up his friend and give him a ride somewhere, which is just a nice thing to do! Why can’t more people be simply considerate and kind? Although, just like Peng Shao Yu, he is driving illegally. A lot of the youth here do that. In Taiwan you have to be 18 to legally drive.
The biggest news I have for you all is that ON FRIDAY WE HAVE A BAPTISM!! 😁😁 WOOO HOOOO!! It’s for Ni JM, who was a member referral. She’s been coming to church for like 6 months with her boyfriend who is a member. They are planning on getting married soon. Its adorable. Yesterday we had a lesson with them and shared about eternal families and temple work. I thought it was pretty cool to be able to share a message about how to have an eternal family through the gospel of Jesus Christ and temples. Pretty special. I realize that should be the ultimate goal for all the people I teach, for them to be able to go to the temple and be sealed to their spouse for time and all eternity. That’s why God gave us this gospel isn’t it? For our eternal happiness! The gift of living with your family for all eternity in the presence of God is eternal happiness! That is what everlasting life means. And it is a gift given to mankind because of the Restoration of Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the message I share everyday. I wish people could fully realize the joyfulness of our message and the immense impact it has in the life of every single person here on earth.
As a side note, my companion and I have been making things. Some cardboard here, some craft foam there, a couple of paper clips, glue, paper, neodymium magnets, some tape, and you’ve got yourself a handy dandy magnetic chess board! That’s been pretty fun this last week.
I LOVE YOU ALL!
