Hello Hello Hello. The first news I have to give is the fact that my companion, Elder Anderson, has moved. My new companion’s name is 陳. That’s Chinese. He is also Chinese. That’s right! My new companion is a native!!!! WOO HOO!!! I’m so excited! I have someone I can ask Chinese questions to all the time now! I’ts going to be so good. I’m planning on switching every other day speaking Chinese and English with him. His English is pretty good. If we switch every day, we’ll both have a chance to better learn a language.
Okay, so this last week I met an interesting fellow. I don’t know what it is about the white people I run into in this country but they are all very special. This man is from Virginia Beach! In fact, he told me where he lives and I know the exact road. Super weird. Anyway, let me tell you about this guy. We were sitting in Starbucks studying Chinese and he came up to me and asked, “hey guys, where you from?” We chatted for a minute then he invited us to come sit with him so he could show us a power point he made on the Gospel of John, you know in the New Testament. So we did. We then proceeded to chat with this man for nearly an hour. He told us he was born in New Jersey and grew up in gangs and eventually became a gang boss or something. He had “tons of money, a car, a driver, a gun, and a woman,” and he said he was so dumb he couldn’t even spell the word book and couldn’t read. Eventually he ended up in jail, somehow found a Bible, learned to read, and became a Christian. Ever since he has been traveling the world sharing the gospel. His story was incredible. His passion for Christ is also incredible. I certainly appreciated the experience.
He kindly shared with us that all religions are doomed. He thinks all religious groups miss the mark. All we need is Jesus. According to him we don’t need a church. He even said we don’t need baptism. The experience made me feel very sad for the man. It was sad to see someone with so much faith in and passion towards Christ who doesn’t completely understand and who wasn’t willing to listen. I’m certainly not saying that I completely understand Jesus Christ, I’m still learning. But I’m able to continue to learn because my heart is open and receptive. His, unfortunately, was not. It was obvious he knew a lot about our church. He even had read the Book of Mormon before. I invited him to pray to God and ask if the Book of Mormon was true. I promised him that if he were to ask God with true faith and with a real desire to know the truth, that God through the Holy Ghost would tell him the Book of Mormon is true. He in turn warned me that we can’t trust our feelings. He told me that we can only trust historical testimony.
Well my dear friends and family who are reading this email, I testify that God our Father in Heaven still actively communicates with His children. Revelation has not ceased, nor will it ever. No perfect, all loving, God would ever stop reaching out to His children in love. I know without a doubt that God has restored His full gospel on the earth today and that He has called Prophets and Apostles who lead and direct His church, just as it was in the Old and New Testament. If you too wish to know if this is true, go and discover for yourself. I sent a link a few weeks ago about how to get a Book of Mormon. That’s how you do it. The Book of Mormon is the word of God. Read it. Please.
